Some tips on how to write an essay conclusion

If you are writing an essay the final part is the conclusion. It should be simple in theory and yet so many students struggle with it. The reason so many people struggle with it is because they misunderstand the purpose of the conclusion. Many students simply repeat their introduction--at times line by line only rephrased--and yet this is not the purpose of a conclusion.

The conclusion is not just a rewrite of your introduction line by line. It is a place for you to restate your thesis and write the main points you addressed in your paper so that they are fresh in the minds of the reader. You then sum your findings and pose a question to the reader or have a quick summary of how your findings impact the future of the field or the future of the research niche. Your conclusion is meant to qualify the impact and future implications of your findings for the reader so that there is no doubt what question you addressed and how your address of that question impacted the field.

As you write your paper you want to make sure you cover the following:

  • Make sure you have an outline first and foremost which adheres to the requirements of your project.
  • Make sure you have an introduction that grabs the attention of the reader and shows them your thesis without any obscure language.
  • Make sure your argument is presented using a variety of writing techniques
  • Make sure your reader is given a thorough background to your topic
  • Make sure your body supports your main arguments with sufficient evidence
  • Make sure you summarize your evidence in the conclusion and leave your reader with a recommendation for further research or a thought-provoking question.

After you finish your conclusion (and of course the rest of your paper) you should make sure your position is supported by facts. Do this during the revision and proofreading process. Also make sure to check proofreading jobs online service. There you will be able to find something for yourself. Make sure your paper has a hook. Make sure the paragraphs you included each have evidence enough to support the point made and that you presented any opposition if applicable. Check that your sentence structure was varied and your word choice was concise. Make sure the transitions in between paragraphs was clear and that your conclusion conveys your position again and urges thought or action on behalf of the reader.
